Job Description
The Office of Sponsored Programs at The Jackson Laboratory located in Bar Harbor, Maine is currently seeking a Manager of Post-Award reporting to the Senior Director of the Office of Sponsored Programs. Primary responsibilities include operational oversight for the post-award and compliance functions of the Office of Sponsored Programs.
Responsibilities include:
Managing post-award grants department including research program financial analysis, budgeting and effort distribution
Overseeing coordination of research compliance areas including but not limited to Human Subjects Protections program, Institutional Biosafety (NIH _rDNA Guidelines_) and Financial Conflict of Interest across three campuses
Oversees a team of grants financial analysts (staff at both JAX Mammalian Genetics & JAX Genomic Medicine) to assist faculty with programmatic oversight and financial management, grants management, and labor distribution, as well as compliance and the administrative coordination of select research compliance areas.
Working directly with scientific staff to develop post-award budgets and ongoing programmatic financial analysis.
Supports Senior Director in coordinating the institutional research budget, forecasting and strategic planning, as well as ad hoc reporting to JAX Senior Leadership.
Working closely with Sponsored Projects Accounting to assure compliance with federal cost principles (OMB Circular A-122), single-audit (A-133) and sponsor specific terms and conditions.
Required Skills
Knowledge of supervisory processes and techniques of leadership as would normally be acquired through three years of lead or supervisory experience.
Effective management and supervisory skills - communication, organization, planning, budgeting, setting goals and objectives as would be acquired through progressively increased responsibilities in past positions.
Excellent interpersonal skills to work in a high-profile environment requiring discretion, judgment, confidentiality and diplomacy.
Knowledge of and interest in enterprise resource planning systems including general ledger, activity/project accounting modules, journal entries, report writing capabilities, and testing procedures. Demonstrated experience with set up and maintenance of accounting system.
Skills in oral and written communication sufficient to clearly convey and receive information and ideas. Exceptional attention to detail required.
Must possess the ability to work in a deadline driven environment, and must be able to accommodate grant deadline schedules with occasional unanticipated late hours.
Required Experience
Bachelors' Degree in business or at least seven (7) years experience in financial management with increasing responsibilities in a senior management support environment.
CRA (Certified Research Administrator) and/or CIP (Certified IRB Professional) certifications preferred.
Expert knowledge and professional application of accounting principles and practices in accordance with non-profit accounting standards and federal grant regulations (applicable OMB Circulars and single-audit requirements).
Independent initiative and good judgment in decision making
Ability to creatively problem-solve and implement solutions.
Demonstrated ability to be a positive team player across diverse internal and external organization.
An understanding of compliance issues (IRB, IBC, FCOI) as they relate to sponsored research administration.
Candidate chosen for this position will be required to have a favorable consumer credit report as part of the conditional pre-employment offer.
