Job Description
There is a regular, full-time position available in Reproductive Sciences for the RS Lab Supervisor located in Bar Harbor, ME. The successful candidate will be attentive to detail, team oriented, eager to learn and willing to undertake challenging projects in addition to possessing effective communication skills and demonstrated leadership abilities.
Responsibilities include:
Supervise the daily operations of assigned Reproductive Sciences personnel including, but not limited to, interviewing and hiring, training, work allocation, career development, performance evaluation, disciplinary actions, terminating, and problem resolution.
Manages area workload and allocates work assignments. Ensuring team routinely meets target turnaround times for customer projects and for special projects. Identifies and resolves bottlenecks.
Ensures high quality stewardship of laboratory assets such as inventoried biospecimens, equipment, reagents and materials, and facilities.
Ensures consistent application of the organization policies, procedures, safety standards and established regulatory standards.
Ensures high quality processes and results. Drives process improvement to improve quality, efficiency, and increase capacity and customer satisfaction. Leads or contributes to intra- and interdepartmental process improvement initiatives. Drives and supports implementation of new processes and methods.
Ensures team participates in deviation reporting, deviation response, corrective and preventative actions. Ensures team participates in staff-led improvement and innovation ideas. Performs quality audits.
Performs routine wet lab, hands on, production work and special projects.
Develops training program; performs routine continual education and retraining; arranges cross-training with other RS teams.
Serves as communication liaison for their team with other RS supervisors and management, with other departments, and with vendors.

Required Experience
Knowledge of animal reproduction from a Baccalaureate degree in biological or veterinary sciences, with 2 to 4 years relevant laboratory experience; or, Two year associate, vocational or technical degree, completion of an apprenticeship program with 6 to 8 years of equivalent laboratory work experience in the field of biological sciences.
Knowledge of basic mouse genetics and mouse based animal husbandry. Knowledge of college level Mendelian genetics that can be obtained through a genetics course at an accredited college or university or through successful completion of the Jackson Laboratory genetics course, Beyond Basic Genetics. Other means of acquiring this knowledge will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Ability to independently interpret and troubleshoot genotyping results is a plus.
Proficiency in operating computer hardware and software applications such as Microsoft Office and institutional and departmental inventory, animal and lab management applications.
