Job Description
The Jackson Laboratory is looking for a full time Lead Security Officer . Working under limited supervision, this position is responsible for leading the on-duty security staff in safeguarding company assets both tangible and intangible at multiple geographic locations during an assigned shift. Monitors critical systems and implements standard operating procedures and emergency action checklists as necessary. Conducts and directs security patrol operations and rounds of local premises to inspect property and facilities. Handles problems and situations that are out of the ordinary, and engaging others as needed and appropriate. In the absence of Senior Supervisor, Security Services oversees the work of other Security Officers, and performs Employee Security Orientation and contractor briefings. This is a daytime position but incumbent may be required to work other shifts as required.

Responsibilities:
Implements emergency response procedures through established protocols and responds to both emergency and routine requests for assistance.
Leads the on-duty security effort across all campuses and directs the activities of posted security officers to maintain safe and secure operations.
Patrols and monitors all areas and buildings of the Laboratory and alerts appropriate personnel of unusual findings.
Trains new security officers and maintains an ongoing training regime to maintain qualifications of assigned staff.
Maintains Basic First Aid and Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation certifications and renders aid when needed.
Required Skills
Job Requirements:
At least 3 years of experience as a security shift lead or equivalent position, or 3 years of experience as a Jackson Laboratory Security Officer acquired within the last 8 years.
High school diploma or equivalent, college coursework or associate's degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement or other emergency response discipline preferred.
Clear criminal background, and valid Class C Maine driver's license or the ability to convert an out-of-state license within 30-days of assignment.
Ability to remain calm, decisive and effective under pressure, and demonstrate an appropriate sense of urgency in emergency situations.
Experience operating sophisticated and specialized computer-based systems used for monitoring and controlling security and asset protection to include access control, video management, building automation systems, dispatch applications, email and basic office productivity programs for used communication purposes.
Ability to speak and write effectively in English, and deliver security presentations including new-hire orientation and security awareness topics.
Scheduled Shift:
3-9 pm on Thursday
8 pm - 6:30 am Friday
6:00 pm - 6:30 am on Saturday & Sunday
The incumbent is assigned to a specific shift with set work days and hours, however changing requirements and emergencies may require staffing other shifts and performing other security duties as required. The Lead Security Officer is also expected to assist in the drafting of subordinate staff performance feedback.
